Do you find yourself struggling to reach your goals consistently? If so, you are not alone. At one time or another, we’ve all fallen short of the goals we have for ourselves. Sometimes we fail to reach our goals because of a lack of motivation, the influences of others, our thoughts, or unforeseen situations. Whatever the reason, if you find yourself giving up on your goals before you barely even start, it’s not uncommon. Fortunately, you can start implementing strategies right now to turn the tide and start accomplishing your biggest goals. In this article, I will talk about four strategies you can implement to help you accomplish your goals with more consistency.
WRITE DOWN YOUR GOALS
When you identify what goals you want to accomplish, don’t simply leave them stored in your mind; write them out on paper. Several studies have shown that you are more likely to accomplish your goals when you write them down. I’ve found that writing down my goals strongly affects my willingness to take action on them. Writing down your goals also gives you more clarity and understanding. We have so much on our minds all the time. So, writing down a list of your goals can help reduce the confusion and overwhelm that may arise when you are ready to start taking action.
IDENTIFY WHY YOUR GOALS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU
Writing down your goals is the first step in ensuring that you accomplish them. In addition to writing them down, it’s even more crucial that you attach meaning to your goals. When you write down your goals, write down why each one of them is significant to you. Why is it important to you that you accomplish this goal? How would your life change if you accomplished your goal? Identifying why your goals are significant helps push you forward to keep going even when moving forward becomes difficult.

VISUALIZE YOURSELF ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS
Imagine what it would look like when you reach that goal you’ve been putting off, thinking about going after or stopping midway through accomplishing. Paint a picture in your mind. What would it look like when you achieve what you set out to do? How would you feel? What would you do? How would your loved ones feel? What would they say to you? Reflecting on these questions is another effective tool you can use to keep moving forward with your goals.
IDENTIFY THE COSTS OF GIVING UP ON YOUR GOALS
A concept I learned from Dean Graziosi is to “be disturbed with inaction.” Identifying the costs of not reaching your goals adds even more meaning to them. Being brutally honest about what giving up on your goals has cost you and will continue to cost you makes you realize how important it is to keep taking action. Writing out the consequences or results of giving up on my goals allows me to see how certain behaviors I’ve adopted over time have kept me stuck in a place that I don’t want to be. This step of identifying the costs of quitting on my goals has had the strongest effect on my desire to take action. When I reflect on my unaccomplished goals, the emotions that come up remind me that I’m not where I want to be. Realizing that I can and should do better empowers me to change my situation by taking action and staying the course.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Sticking to your goals can be challenging but certainly not impossible. Before I started implementing these strategies, staying consistent with my goals felt impossible. The key is to regularly use these strategies when you find yourself getting off track on your goals. These steps will help give you the motivation and courage you need to keep accomplishing your biggest and boldest goals.
